A bronze watch is a commitment to character. Here is everything you need to know about the science of patina and the care of your automatic Diver.
Patina is a natural oxidation layer that forms as the CuSn8 bronze reacts with oxygen and moisture. It acts as a protective shield against corrosion, producing deep chocolate and turquoise hues unique to your environment.
Wipe your timepiece with a dry microfiber cloth daily to remove oils. After saltwater exposure, rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry completely. Bronze is softer than steel—handle with care to preserve the sharp case edges.
If you prefer the original warm gold luster, create a mild paste of baking soda and lemon juice. Apply gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry. This resets the patina journey to day one.
The Japan NH35 is a mechanical workhorse. Expect a variance of -20 to +40 seconds per day—this is the soul of a machine with no battery, powered entirely by your movement.
